Objective:
The primary objective of Councillor peer assessment is self-development, seeking to identify areas where Councillors can improve performance and recognize and build on strengths. Constructive feedback is an important tool to assist Councillors to measure how well they are performing their duties and contributing to the work of Council as a whole. By using this feedback to focus on strengthening individual performance, Councillors can enhance the overall effectiveness of Council.
In addition, the summary report submitted to the Governance Committee and the CDSS Council can provide valuable insight to skill gaps or training issues that ought to be addressed to ensure that Council continues to function at a high level.
Communication measures the willingness of a Councilor to freely express an opinion on matters before Council, the Councillors respect for the contribution of others and capacity to contribute meaningfully to Council discussions.
